After Tuesday night’s late win at Chester-le-Street Town, where the two birthday boys, Tony Stephenson and Chris Jewels, both scored, Hebburn Town were today pulled out of the hat and will face either Jarrow FC or Durham City in the second round of the competition.

To reach the first round of the competition, Jarrow won 4-0 away to Northern League Division 2 side Washington while Durham City travelled to Tow Law Town and won 3-1.

With Wearside League Jarrow at home to Durham this Saturday, we’ll know our opponents quickly as the match must have an outcome on the day. For the next round to be a South Tyneside derby, our neighbours will need a great performance to see off our Northern League Division 1 rivals Durham.

Jarrow currently sit in sixth place in the Wearside League while Durham, two leagues above, are currently fourth from bottom.

After a 3-0 victory over Darlington and Chester-le-Street, the Durham Challenge Cup, first competed for in 1884 and which the Hornets won for the only time in 1992, offers an opportunity for Hebburn to enjoy a cup run after early elimination from both national FA competitions this season.

The second round matches have been announced by the Durham FA as having to be concluded by 13 January, 2013. We will confirm the exact date of the match as soon as it is arranged.
