Hebburn Town assistant manager Dean Nicholson today hailed both his team and the new hit in town following Tuesday evening’s 4-1 victory over Whitley Bay at the Hebburn Sports & Social Ground.

Speaking of the first home league win of the season, Nicholson said it was an “unbelievable performance and a great night. For us to beat Whitley Bay so convincingly, a club that really is at the forefront of national non-league football, especially at this level, was superb.”

We dominated the game, were well organised and allowed Whitley Bay to have possession in the right areas of the pitch. We knew that when we got the ball that we could attack them and hurt them.”

We’ve already taken points from some very good teams at some tough away grounds – our form away from home has been brilliant this season. Don’t forget where we were not so long ago. We were sitting third from bottom of the second division two years ago. We consolidated over the remainder of that season, pushed on last year and won promotion, and we have now defeated a team that won the FA Vase three years on the bounce while we are sitting in a top-half position in the first division.”

Our aim is to kick-on. We learn after every game; we see how teams adapt to our style of play and we make tweaks where we need to; and we also adapt and develop from how they play against us.”

After an excellent week for the whole of Hebburn as a town, I’m extremely proud to be a part of this fantastic football club. I watched the brilliant programme on TV with my girlfriend last Thursday and thought it was a great watch, superbly written by Jason Cook, and I can’t wait to tune in this week.”

I’d urge all of Hebburn, and the north-east, to get behind the show. And, hand-in-hand, to get behind us as a club as well.”

We are fourteen games through the season and so far I’d like to thank everyone for their efforts, from the players to the committee, to the fans who have travelled from Penrith to Consett, Billingham to Newton Aycliffe to follow us.”

To those fans who have been with us for years and to the new fans who coming down and having a look at us. We had some great support last night and it was really appreciated hearing some of the songs getting started. We will do all we can to continue our good season, to keep building, and make Hebburners even prouder of this fantastic town.”
