FA Vase Second Qualifying Round
Consett vs Hebburn Town
After six successive away wins, Hebburn Town travel to Consett looking to book their place in the First Round Proper of the FA Vase.
Following a fine 5-2 victory over Billingham Town on Tuesday night, the Hornets welcome back Jeff Forsyth and Chris Jewels with both defenders missing the trip to Teesside. Stuart Nicholson will miss the game but Tony Stephenson will be looking for more goals after scoring six times already this season, including a glorious hat-trick midweek.
Lee Harrison continues his return to fitness and will travel with the squad and train, though it is doubtful that the classy left-back will be included in the match sixteen. Liam McBryde is also nearing full fitness and hopes to make the squad after a fitness test before kick-off.
“After a decent start to the season, which actually could have been even better, we travel to Consett with a chance to progress in the Vase,” said manager Paul Bennett after Thursday night’s training session. “Belle Vue is a difficult place to get a result but if we apply ourselves like we have been doing, and approach the game in a professional manner, then we have a chance to get through. We’re under no illusions, though – we know how hard this task will be.”
In the last round, Hebburn travelled to Holker Old Boys and won 2-1 while Consett defeated Alnwick Town 5-0 at home. In the league, The Steelmen have played three home games and have won one, drew one and lost one in addition to that Vase victory and an FA Cup defeat against Tadcaster Albion.
The home side will be missing five players through injury, though they welcome back Ryan Bell, Harrison Davies and Andrew Thompson.
The First Round Proper on 13 October and a trip to either Silsden or Northallerton Town awaits the winners. If the match ends in a draw, the replay will be on Tuesday evening at the Hebburn Sports & Social Ground with a 7.30pm kick-off with the Durham Challenge Cup tie against Darlington being postponed.
